Barry M Sequin Nail Effects Review

Hey everyone! Today I have a review of the new Barry M Sequin Nail Effects which will be released on the 8th May on 'Hot Spots' aka the top shelf, and then on the 5th June in Superdrug and 12th June in Boots. To my surprise these polishes are textured, which I know is very in this year, but I'm not exactly sure it suits these, read on to find out more.
As always the pictures and review will be after the jump!

First up is Sequin Nail Effects Pink*, this was 2 coats. I wont say 'easy' coats because you do have to do a bit of placement both of the polish and of the glitter, but overall it's pretty opaque. On my fore and ring fingers I have 2 coats of Seche Vite to show you what it looks with and without top coat, I definitely prefer it with but that's up to you!

Next up is my least favourite of the 3 polishes, Sequin Nail Effects Black*, when I saw the press release for these I was expecting this to be a lot like their 'Gold Mine Glitter' but with bigger glitter, because I didn't realise they were textured. But unfortunately, this reminds me a lot of tar. Again, this is personal preference, and you might love it! This again is 2 coats but this time I only put one coat of Seche Vite on my fore and ring fingers, and I think perhaps 2 would have made me like it more.

As you can see, I failed miserably with glitter placement on my ring finger

Finally is my favourite of the three, Sequin Nail Effects White*, which has been compared to China Glaze - It's a Trap-eze, and I have a comparison swatch for you. This was 2 coats again with 2 coats of Seche Vite on the ring and forefingers.

As you can see they're very different, I can see why they have been compared but there is a lot more variety in the glitter side in It's a Trap-eze and it's not textured like the Barry M one.

Overall, I give these 7/10, they're staying on trend with the textured effect, however I think they could have been a bit thinner, I found the formula a bit thick to work with. I really like the white and pink ones but the black one is not for me, except perhaps with 2 coats of top coat. However I have heard that it is slightly easier to manage over a coat of black polish.

I would recommend getting at least one of these polishes to try out because they're really unique. These will be released on the 8th May on 'Hot Spots' aka the top shelf, and then on the 5th June in Superdrug and 12th June in Boots and will be priced at £3.99

What do you think? Let me know in the comments!

  1. i feel as if the textured element ruins them - but i guess i've never been a fan of the trend so i'm biased! the white glitter looks quite nice with top coat on it though xx

  2. Is it weird that I really want to lick these? They soooooo remind me of frosting and sprinkles!

  3. The white one is really nice but when compared to the China Glaze one, I prefer the latter. I also am not quite sure how I feel about textured polishes just yet. Might have to actually try one out though if I can manage to get one of these polishes.

  4. Hmmm I'm not so sure about these. I've been following you in the background forever and your manicures always look so "perfect". This polish's texture just looks sloppy to me. It also appears as if it didn't dry, like a wet cement look. Did you have any problems with drying time without the Seche?

  5. The pink one reminds me of those fairy bread biscuts

  6. I totally agree with Samantha Ann above, the texture simply doesn't work for me, and it just looks a bit weird, I like the concept but looking at this.. its not for me - sorry!

  7. As soon as I saw this I went "ewwww what is that?" I definitely prefer them with top coat. But I think they missed the mark on the textured, they are so gross looking! lol

  8. i like the pink one the most :) but also black is great. it reminds me of caviar in some way ;) but anyway this combination of glitter and texture is something weird. but i don't know why because first sand polishes were from opi also with glitter. so maybe it's the matter of glitters color

  9. I really think they missed the mark with these. I'm kind of hoping that with all the feedback, they'll go away and reformulate them without the texture lol (I just really want a cheaper dupe of Girly...).

  10. The texture makes them look very odd! I was really looking forqard to getting these but don't think i'll both now! :(

  11. They are too chunky for my taste - I like mine smoother.

  12. I usually tend to like textured polishes but this just doesn't seem to work for me:/ .. It's just a weird looking effect and I feel like it's ruining the polish :(... But your reviews are great as always :)!!

  13. I ordered these from Superdrug not knowing they'd be textured - I'm so disappointed, I'll never wear them in a million years :( xx

  14. I personally think they just look like a bad formula, but I guess it's the trend! In your photos they kind of look like cupcake frosting or something :)

  16. I am pretty disappointed with these, I think they would be sooo much better if they weren't textured!

  17. This is so weird. I was quite looking forward to them but with the texture? I don't think it works.
    Thanks for the swatches!

  18. hmmm... i'm not sure about these! The coloured ones remind me of clown vomit or something haha. Perfect swatches as always, but I think Barry M missed the line with these and wanted to be way ahead of the game (in a bad/neutral way).

  19. Love their texture range but this seems like an epic fail for Barry m, iv seen the same with a few reviews of these and I really don't like them so can't thank you enough as youv saved me money or I would of run out not knowing they were textured and bought them! If Barry m do these without the 'grainy' stuff I think they would be a much better product! I love gold mine so think that's the proof lol x

  20. These sounded so promising but the fact that they are textured has ruined them completely, I'm avoiding these. I wonder if there was some sort of miscommunication and they ended up textured when they shouldn't have been....Barry M have always been so good!

  21. Yeah, I love how your photos are always so uniform and color-correct but I'm not sure anyone could make these look good. I just don't know what they were thinking releasing these. YOU did a great job. THEY failed. ♥

  22. Such as shame as I was really looking forward to release of these :( They look sticky and unsightly. I certainly think you did the best you could with them!!

  23. the pink lokes like a candyfloss! i agree the texture is not the best way for for a pink "glittered". (sorry for my english i'm french!. by the way, your blog is as usual very fun

  24. ergh i dont like them at all!! i dont like the textured look on it's own but when they try to add glitter, the results are even worse!!

  25. wow that is a crazy finish! i just glanced at the photos at first and had to do a double take. i was like, is that cotton candy fuzz?! the textured thing only kinda works on the black one IMHO, but i'm not a huge fan of any of them. thanks for the review!
